Dr. Sherr Appointed Director of BU Medical Center Flow Cytometry Facility

Boston University Medical Center Provost Antman has announced that Dr. David Sherr, the Director of the MBCIF, will be appointed Director of the recently reconstituted Medical Center/Medical School Institutional Flow Cytometry Core Facility. The new Flow Cytometry Core consolidates 2 FACscans, the 6 color MoFlo Cell sorter, and, likely within the next 2 years, an 11 color (upgradable to 16 color), high throughput Becton Dickinson LSR II flow cytometer. Operational support is provided by one full time and one part time cytometer operator and two associate directors. Dr. Sherr’s position as Director of the Flow Cytometry Core insures a direct connection between the MBCIF and all of the BU Medical Center’s flow cytometry assets. ___________________________________________________________________________________

Considerable expertise in the areas of molecular biology and cellular imaging exist in the interdisciplinary environment populated by CIREEH members from the Boston University Schools of Public Health (Environmental Health Department), Medicine (Departments of Medicine, Microbiology, Neurology, and Pathology) and Arts and Sciences (Biology Department). Much of the work involves imaging of cells and small animals. The goals of this facility core are to expedite development of new technologies for environmental health studies, help train current or recruited faculty members in emerging molecular toxicology technologies, increase communication and collaborations between investigators in different disciplines, and significantly contribute to cost effectiveness.
