Evaluation Criteria
Applications judged to be responsive will undergo a competitive two-level review: a scientific review conducted by external reviewers, followed by a programmatic review conducted by the Internal Advisory Committee. The scientific review will be conducted by two external reviewers (non-Center Members) according to the topic area of the applications. For each application, the PPP will identify researchers who have expertise in the proposed research area. The scientific review will be modeled after the NIH Center for Scientific Review approach and modified for use by the CIREEH PPP. The criteria for the scientific review will include significance and innovation, study design and methods, feasibility, and issues surrounding human subjects or vertebrate animals. The second step in the process will be a programmatic review conducted by the Internal Advisory Committee for the purpose of evaluating the extent to which each project addresses the specific aims of the program. The criteria for the programmatic review include relevance to the CIREEH themes, the extent to which the principal investigator meets the targeted applicant criteria, potential for future funding, appropriateness of budget, and availability of funds. |
