Center for Interdisciplinary Research
in Environmental Exposures and Health
Main / Exposure Assessment Facility Core (EAFC)

The Exposure Assessment Facility Core (EAFC) will focus on the development and implementation of innovative techniques for the assessment of occupational and environmental exposures. When established, the Core will:

  • facilitate the design and implementation of exposure assessment field studies by providing centralized access to exposure assessment expertise and resources;
  • develop the laboratory facilities necessary for the extraction and analysis of environmental and biological samples;
  • provide support for using Geographic Information System (GIS) and fate and transport modeling as exposure assessment tools;
  • promote translational exposure research through collaboration with the CIREEH facility cores and communication with community members and public health practitioners.

By expanding exposure assessment resources, the EAFC will be a valuable tool for CIREEH members to utilize in their research. For environmental health scientists who have an existing exposure component in their studies, the EAFC will facilitate the process of initiating and conducting research by providing a central facility for environmental sampling protocols and equipment. The EAFC will also create new opportunities to incorporate exposure assessment components into non-environmental health research.
